DAY 1 – Begin your California Coast Tour by flying into San Diego, where you’ll meet your GNT Tour Manager and check into your hotel for a two night stay. Enjoy a welcome dinner this evening as you wind down from your day of travel.
DAY 2 – Start your day with a tour of the vibrant city of San Diego. Explore the historic Gaslamp Quarter – developed in 1867, this 16 ½ block neighborhood is home to 94 historic buildings, mostly constructed in the Victorian Era, and is famous for its entertainment and nightlife venues. Immerse yourself in the culture and natural beauty that abounds at Balboa Park, a 1200 acre urban culture park containing museums, theaters, gardens, walking paths, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo. Stroll along the harbor in the bustling Embarcadero with its stunning views of the San Diego Bay, and head over to Old Town, the first European settlement in present day California, for a taste of San Diego’s heritage. Spend the afternoon touring San Diego at your leisure – perhaps join an excursion to the San Diego Zoo, or set sail for a relaxing cruise on the harbor and enjoy dinner on your own.
DAY 3 – Sit back and relax this morning as you drive along the pristine Pacific Coast in route to San Juan Capistrano. Visit the beautiful Mission San Juan Capistrano with a docent guide and experience one of the first missions built by the Spanish first hand. Next, on to LA, the City of Angels! Spend the afternoon with an area guide, touring the glamorous city of Los Angeles. Visit the legendary Grauman’s Chinese Theater, stroll the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and stop by the legendary Dolby Theater, home of the Academy Awards. End the day with a leisurely drive through West Hollywood – see the boutiques, nightclubs, and vibrant billboards of Sunset Strip, the high end shops of Rodeo Drive, and the palm-lined streets of the beautiful city of Beverly Hills.
DAY 4 – Spend the morning exploring the Ronald Regan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, CA. This state-of-the-art museum features a full size replica of the Oval Office, the Air Force One aircraft used by Regan, and an exhibit covering Regan’s life - from his childhood in Dixon, IL, through his film, military, and political career. Next follow the Pacific Coast north to Santa Barbara, one of California’s most picturesque cities. Situated between the steeply rising Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, this stunning stretch of coast is often called the “American Rivera” because of its Mediterranean like climate and architecture. Continue to San Luis Obispo, a beautiful, vibrant city nestled between the Coast Range, Pacific Ocean, and Wine Country, for your overnight stay in nearby Shell Beach.

DAY 5 – Today you’ll travel to nearby San Simeon for a tour of the famous Hearst Castle. This grandiose estate was built for newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, and boasts 165 rooms, 127 acres of gardens, terraces, pools and walkways, and a world-class art collection featuring more than 25,000 artifacts. As you tour the grounds once frequented by Hollywood elites such as Charlie Chaplin, Greta Garbo, Cary Grant, and Clark Gable, take in the spectacular mountain and ocean vistas surrounding “The Enchanted Hill.” Continue north through Big Sur, a rugged stretch of coast nestled between the Santa Lucia Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Known for its winding turns, seaside cliffs, and misty coastlines, the Big Sur region has been described as “the greatest meeting of land and water in the world.” Your day ends with your arrival in Monterey, CA, where you’ll enjoy a two night stay at the Carmel Mission Inn.
DAY 6 – This morning you’ll enjoy one of the most breathtaking coastlines in the world as you travel the scenic 17 Mile Drive in Pebble Beach on the Monterey Peninsula. This winding road is home to famous California landmarks such as the 250 year old Lone Cypress, Seal Rock, and the stunning Pebble Beach Golf Course. After your drive, explore the nearby city of Carmel-by-the-Sea, a storybook like town known for its natural scenery and whimsically styled homes, and then travel to Old Monterey, the birth place of California, for an immersion in culture, history, and seaside charm. Spend the afternoon touring Monterey at your leisure – shop and dine on Cannery Row, take in the sights at Fisherman’s Warf, or check out the vast array of marine life at the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium.
DAY 7 – Today you’ll journey inland through the San Joaquin Valley, home to some of the most fertile farmland in the world. Stop by a historic fruit stand for some fresh-off-the-farm produce before continuing into the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains and arriving at Yosemite National Park. Spend the day exploring the many natural wonders of Yosemite Valley – from the iconic formations of El Capitan and Half Dome, to the breathtaking sights of Yosemite Falls, the immense beauty of this mountainous region is sure to invigorate and inspire you! This evening enjoy a delicious dinner with your fellow travelers before retiring to your hotel for a one night stay in Yosemite Park.
DAY 8 – Travel back in time today as you continue through the Sierras and enter Gold Country. Visit the 28-acre National Historic Landmark District of Old Sacramento, and experience what life was like during the era of the gold rush and the founding of the Transcontinental Railroad. Next, travel into the rolling hills of Napa Valley, an area of spectacular scenery and home to hundreds of vineyards. Enjoy a winery tour and tasting before heading southwest and crossing the majestic Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco. Here you’ll check into your hotel for a two-night stay in the beautiful “City by the Bay.”
DAY 9 – Begin your day with a tour of the beautiful city of San Francisco. Take in the spectacular views of the Bay Area at the top of the Twin Peaks, see the iconic Victorian homes of Pacific Heights, walk the bustling streets of Chinatown, browse the high end shops and boutiques of Union Square, and reconnect with nature as you explore the gardens, trails, lakes, and monuments of the picturesque Golden Gate Park. Spend the afternoon touring America’s most romantic city at your own pace, or perhaps join an excursion to see the 1,000 year old giant redwood trees of Muir Woods. End your day with a farewell dinner in San Francisco’s famous Fisherman’s Wharf.
DAY 10 – Today you’ll travel to the airport for your journey home, filled with wonderful memories of your time on the California coast.
