What is travel insurance? Travel insurance is like a blanket of security for your hard-earned dollars. Most travelers plan vacations around busy work schedules, holidays and the availability of family and friends. Time is an expensive commodity. And like the protection you seek for your homes, cars, and health, travel insurance protects your travel fund and vacation time against delays, cancellations and even theft. When do I need it? When you are away from home, delays, thefts and sickness can turn your world upside down – physically and financially. Travel insurance companies field calls every day from real people who didn’t expect to encounter problems but did. The difference is knowing that you, your family, and your traveling companions are covered is disaster strikes. That peace of mind before and during your trip frees you to focus on the fun, not the “what ifs.” How will I be covered? While traveling, your homeowners insurance and credit card policies may cover some of your additional trip expenses, but may not cover them all. Travel insurance fills in the holes and “gaps” where other policies may not. As some vacationers have discovered during their travels, health insurance policies may cease providing coverage overseas or in international waters. Applicable coverage may be considered “out of network” and could come with a higher deductible. |
