Transportation on the Grand Canyon Railway

In the early 20th century, the train ferried the workers that helped to create many of the historic structures that still stand around the South Rim. Phased out in mid 1960’s when automobiles took over, the train was reborn in 1989 and now takes almost a quarter of a million sightseers to the Grand Canyon every year.

Montezuma Castle National Monument

Built about 700 years ago by the Sinaquas Indians, these ruins were erroneously named by early settlers who connected them to the Aztec emperor Montezuma. Also the dwellings weren’t even a castle but a multi-family high-rise apartment complex. Along with ruins there is a small museum and a bookstore on site.
