Volksparade

Held annually in Holland, Michigan, the Volksparade starts with a “white glove” inspection followed by all the locals in traditional Dutch costumes carrying brooms, mops and pails scrubbing the parade route clean. There are bands, floats, dignitaries, clowns and of course Dutch dance groups wearing authentic wooden shoes “klomping “their way through the parade route.

Upon arrival the first thing you’ll see is a working 250 year old Dutch Windmill soaring 125 feet over the 36 acres of gardens, dikes, canals and picnic areas. With over 150,000 tulips in bloom Windmill Island is a spectacular sight! There is also a Amsterdam street organ, the Posthouse Museum which is the exact replica of a 14th century Dutch inn and traditional Klompen dancing recitals held through-out the day.
