MELISSA HOOD, GNT TOUR MANAGER

Melissa Hood is relatively new to the Good News Travel Team, but she has already taken her fair share of trips and has quickly learned the ropes of this high-energy and fast-paced job. Check out what she has to say about her experiences so far:

I’ve only been with GNT for half a year, and I can truly say I love my job. Getting to know teachers and students and church members on trips is very rewarding. I hope to continue to be able to do this for many years to come.

Q: What trips have you been on so far? Which has been your favorite?

Melissa: I’ve been to Charleston, Chattanooga, Atlanta, Washington DC, and Rock Hill.  It’s difficult to choose a favorite because I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each group.

Q: What made you want to pursue this job?

M: I enjoy travel and I enjoy getting to know people. These two things, I feel, are necessary to be a good tour manager.

Q: What’s the most challenging aspect of being a tour manager?

M: Finding impromptu places on the routes to stop and eat because maneuvering a big bus is not always easy.

Q: The most fun/exciting aspect of tour management?

M: I love seeing the excitement on the kids’ faces when they’re seeing something new for the first time. The best thing I heard from a child was, “This is the best field trip ever!”

Q: How do you prepare for trips?

M: Homework is essential for a successful trip. I make sure to call all the vendors to confirm reservations and also to maintain a close relationship with the group leaders.

Q: Anything else you’d like to add?

M: I’ve only been with GNT for half a year, and I can truly say I love my job. Getting to know teachers and students and church members on trips is very rewarding. I hope to continue to be able to do this for many years to come.
