Best Fourth of July Destinations

Independence Day is one of the most exciting holidays of the year. Everywhere across the nation, towns and cities celebrate our nation’s founding with parades, fireworks, parties, and all sorts of other fun events. And with the holiday being in the middle of summer, it’s a great time to travel too!

Here are seven great cities to celebrate the Fourth of July in!

Boston, Massachusetts

Boston certainly goes all out for Independence Day. Perhaps the most famous event is the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular that takes place on the Charles River Esplanade. With a spectacular performance lineup, followed by one of the best firework displays on the east coast, visitors to Boston are dazzled every year!

Washington DC

Visitors to the nation’s capital on July Fourth will not be at a loss for things to do and see! Join the thousands of other spectators at the National Independence Day Parade, or experience the free “A Capitol Fourth” concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building.

In the City of Brotherly Love, the city where it all began, the Independence Day festivities begin on July 29th with the Wawa Welcome America festival. Visitors can enjoy fireworks shows, free outdoor concerts, free entry to local museums, parades, and other attractions.

Wilmington, North Carolina

While not the largest Independence Day celebration in the nation, the events in Wilmington are spectacular nonetheless. Hear wonderful patriotic music played by the North Carolina Symphony, take in the fireworks while strolling along the Carolina Beach Boardwalk, and enjoy some barbecue while listening to bluegrass!

New Orleans, Louisiana

Just like the rest of the year, Independence Day takes on a rather relaxed pace in New Orleans. The city is a great place for barbecues and picnics! The events pick up with the city’s unique fireworks show called “Dueling Barges,” which can be seen from several different places along the river.
