West Virginia

Cass Scenic Railroad
The town of Cass is like stepping back into history. Take the Cass Scenic Railroad up the mountain to Bald Knob, the third highest point in West Virginia, with a brief stop at Whittaker Station. It is advised to take plenty of warm clothing for the higher elevations, and dark clothing is strongly suggested as the train does produce soot.

Tamarack Visitors Center is notable due to its distinctive red peaked roof and meticulous landscaped grounds.

Peaks of Otter
Overlooking Bedford, Virginia are the three mountain peaks known as the Peaks of Otter. Surrounding the Jefferson Natural Forest with stunning views and natural beauty, there is plenty to do including hiking, fishing, touring Polly Wood’s Ordinary, a cabin that was used to house travelers passing through starting in the early 1820s and the Johnson Farm, a living history farm.
Virginia Dare Riverboat Cruise
Come enjoy a narrated riverboat cruise and see what Smith Mountain Lake State Park is all about. You’ll pass by three separate islands, two islands that are actually ridge tops, an antique carousel, one of the oldest tobacco barns in the area and numerous Osprey nests. Then you’ll cruise over an underwater bridge before arriving at Smith Mountain Lake Dam.
